Upon a Waking Dream it’s a collection of short stories with amazing, beautiful, fantastic, emotional aspects differentiating each other. This sci-fi short stories envolve around aliens technology, space time travel. Bringing us the concept of the humanity with perspectives on the cure to give humans eternal life. Love between human and aliens etc.
This was a very easy as fast-paced pace read, I recommend it to anyone interested in an introduction to J.S. Bailey's writing it was my first time :)

This is a book of sci-fi and fantasy short stories by J.S. Bailey, an author I was not familiar with. I always enjoy sci-fi, the story premises were interesting, and there were some clever bits, but I didn’t read anything worth shouting about. Inheritance and The Last to Pass were pretty good. Some of the other stories were OK but there were things that rubbed me the wrong way about them (one I thought the ending was kind of stupid, and a couple more the endings just didn’t make sense.) I also had trouble suspending disbelief, but not about any of the sci-fi or fantasy elements, but in terms of people behaving or reacting in what I thought were unrealistic ways (which in my opinion is worse.)

Overall, this was an OK read, but I definitely don’t feel inspired to seek out the author’s other works.

Representation: POC characters

I received an advance copy of this ebook from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I am not typically one who loves short stories, but these may have changed my mind a bit. They felt so cozy and whimsy, each one caught my attention at least a little bit. While I definitely enjoyed some more than others, it was a pretty solid collection and I would love to try more of the author’s work.

Some short stories were really good! I even got emotional in some
Others I found boring (and like they draged out tbh, which is weird for a short story compilation)
But in the end I would be intrested in reading more from this author

This book is a collection of Sci-fi short stories and I really loved reading them. The creative mind of the author takes us all through the Universe and the stories are really cozy.

I really loved the first two chapters. In the first chapter we get to roam around a different fictional planet and in the second chapter we get the chance of time traveling. I was totally immersed into these absolutely fantastic worlds.

The book contains 12 short stories each with very interesting concepts. The character and plot developments of each and every character was wonderful and the world building in all the stories were absolutely great. Overall I found this book very cozy and enjoyed it.

The cover photo of the book is also very beautiful and that is what caught my eye first. I will definitely recommend this book to everyone. It is a great one time read.

This was a great short story collection! Definitely brought me back to my teenage years, reading classic sci-fi collections my dad would give me.

The stories cover a great range of topics and themes, so I think everyone can find a favourite. They also vary in length, and I really appreciated the short ones that leave you chuckling to yourself before you move on to the more lengthy ones. I'd struggle picking a favourite myself!

All in all, this was a fun, easy read. Don't skip the author's notes at the end!

Thanks to NetGalley for for sharing this digital reviewer copy with me in exchange for my honest feedback.

Upon a waking Dream by J.S. Bailey

I have never had the opportunity to pick up a collection of short stories. Granted, I have never read Sci-Fi novels, even though I grew up watching old Sci-Fi films and tv shows with my family. This collection of short stories was incredible! I couldn’t quite rate this a 5 star because there wasn’t a full complete story and novel to follow, but I think the author did an incredible job at capturing a lot of very interesting and compelling topics. Jay coming in as an outsider to the church and posing some important questions… that one will continue to sit with me.

I enjoyed all of these, but The Family Name and The Last to Pass were mind blowing and eye opening.

I highly recommend this collection of short stories for those who want to be introduced to sci-fi concepts and kinda dip their toe into this genre. It definitely opened my eyes to trying out a new genre and made me want to read more novels by this author.

Thank you NetGalley for this ARC! I really enjoyed this anthology of short stories. Some leaned more in the direction if sci-fi, some were more fantasy.
All of them had some really unique concepts. While some were just humourous and entertaining, others explored morals and made you think. So, it was a fine mix of stories. I'd suggest this to anyone who enjoys anthologies and little worlds they offer within!
Really love the cover of book!
