I finished Obsession, Deceit and Really Dark Chocolate by Kyra Davis last night, and while the writing was great, it was up to her usual goodness, I found myself having a really hard time enjoying the book. And the reason for that is because whoever wrote the cover blurb gave away things that didn't happen until 350 pages into the book. And this was a 390 page book. It took away a lot of what I felt should have been revelations and surprises.

I don't know, maybe we weren't supposed to be surprised by certain things, only the character was. Still, I think someone made a huge mistake (nod to Arrested Development there).

This was the third Sophie Katz novel, and since I can't even really remember anything that happened in the first two, it was kind of like reading a standalone book with references to previous things. In this one Sophie's friend enlists her help to try to seduce her husband, who she thinks is cheating on her. Well, it turns out her husband was not, and he ends up getting shot right after Sophie tries to seduce him at a bar. Now, I could go on to reveal everything the back cover does, and give away things, but I won't. I'll just say that chaos ensues as Sophie, with her ex-boyfriend Anatoly, tries to figure out who killed her friend's husband.

So this is your warning. If you pick up this book to read, don't read the back cover (or probably the blurb at Amazon or the like). Just go ahead and start the book. It was well written, and Kyra Davis hasn't let me down yet with her chick lit novels, so I would definitely recommend it, I just wish I hadn't been spoiled. I would rate it a 3.5/5, but it could have been higher.

I very much enjoy this series, it’s just so fun. Nothing ground breaking and can be a little repetitive so breaking it up with other books is a great idea. This is the first one that ended with a cliffhanger which is fun. I’m kind of annoyed it started out with Anatoly and Sophie not together. I would’ve liked to see their tension and arguments, but start off another book with her pissy knowing they’d get back together. All in all tho, another fun romp. I guessed the killer n it was kind of a lamer mystery, but still enjoyed.

I love a fun female-centric read and Sophie doesn’t disappoint. Mystery with a hint of fashion, love, and friends.

"'Please tell me your relationship with your cat is vastly different from your relationship with the men you date.' 'Obviously it's different - I trust my cat......'"
"When it comes to men I prefer the strong silent type. The ones who speak annoy me."

An immensely fun and embarrassingly relatable read.

I really wanted to enjoy this book, but I just couldn't get into it like the first two Sophie books. The story was based around politics which is something I pretty much have no interest in, so I think that plays a huge part in why I had trouble getting into the story. By the end, however, I really enjoyed it, so I think I need to go back and read it again to see if I enjoy it more.

I wasn't sure I was going to like this one when it started getting all political on me, but once the whole furry thing came into play I was glad I stuck with it. And I'm very interested in Sophie's relationship with Anatoly. Reminds me of my own in the marriage sense. I really like this series.

Oh no!!! I loved Johnny even though I guessed he was the guilty person in the mystery. But the audiobook  narrator was doing such a great job with his voice. I was rooting to be wrong.

Loved this book in the series. Much better than the first book and even the second. It is hilarious. I particularly loved the conversation between Sophie and the homeless woman who saw a Cuddly Bear. Very b*tchy 2000s vibe that is actually enjoyable.

Though to other readers I do caution that there is some homophobia due to toxic masculinity.
