A fundraiser for War Child--although not a very good fundraiser from me, personally, since I checked it out from the library. Short stories by the biggies in "chick lit," your Sophie Kinsellas and Meg Cabots and Lisa Jewels and Anna Maxteds and whatnot.

Something my friend Matt would describe as "exactly the sort of thing you like, if you like that sort of thing."

Yes, I know, more chick lit, aaaaaiiiyah! But this was a collection of short stories, to benefit the War Child charity. Had I actually bought it, instead of renting it, I'd probably feel like one of those Good PeopleĀ© you hear so much about. In any case, with any compilation, you get your good and your bad. In CDs, this usually has a better good-to-bad ratio. In books, maybe not so much. I admit, I rented this because of [a:Meg Cabot|11654|Meg Cabot|http://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1197201648p2/11654.jpg], who, I've mentioned before, is one of my guilty pleasures authors. It is a half-and-half shot, though. Obviously, Cabot's short story ("Party Planner") was quite fabulous (I liked it especially because, like [b:Every Boy's Got One|23223|Every Boy's Got One (Boy, #3)|Meg Cabot|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1348938408s/23223.jpg|1379325] and [b:Boy Meets Girl|93723|Boy Meets Girl (Boy, #2)|Meg Cabot|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1328033372s/93723.jpg|2425604], it involves the same company and law firms, and brings some lesser-known characters to the forefront). I was surprised that I enjoyed Sarah Mlynowski's "Know It All", because I've not been a fan of hers before. However, there were bits that I didn't like. But, that is the pratfall in buying a compilation. If you see it cheap (and enjoy this type of lit), pick it up.

Some great stories, a couple that I skipped cos they were pretty ordinary IMO. Great intro to some authors I hadn't read before : )

At first I was disappointed because I didn't know it would be a book of short stories. But, most of the stories were cute.

Some of the stories were great, some were ok, and a couple were pretty bad. But overall, a fine way to pass the day (stayed at home sick yesterday). This is definitely Chick-Lit or Rom-Com-in-Writing. (two and a half of 5 stars)

I am not a huge fan of short story collections but I decided to pick up `GIRLS NIGHT IN' because some of the stories were penned by some of my favorite authors in the chick-lit genre and some by authors that I have never read but wanted to. Unfortunately, I cannot say that I was impressed by this collection, out of the twenty-one stories I can honestly only say that I liked seven, the rest were either mediocre, left something to be desired, or were just bad. However, on a positive note, out of the seven stories that I did like five of the authors were ones whose books I've never read. Therefore, I did accomplish the goal of discovering new authors to put into my rotation.

My seven favorites, in no particular order, were:

`THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE' by Marian Keys
`ACTING STRANGELY' by Chris Manby
`KNOW IT ALL' by Sarah Mylnowski
`CAT LADY' by Alisa Valdes-Rodriguez
`DON'T YOU KNOW WHO I AM' by Adele Lang
`PARTY PLANNER' by Meg Cabbot
`TRAVELING LIGHT' by Carole Matthews

So while I cannot say that I particularly enjoyed this book in its entirety, I do have the pleasure of walking away excited to read more from the seven aforementioned authors.
