“He held her with the type of intensity that only happens when a person wants something that isn't quite theirs.”
so....
ok listen, is evangilne probably the most delulu girl ever? absolutely, but if that's wrong, then I don't want to be right. the man has dimples, what's a girl supposed to do? this book broke me and gave me everything I wanted at the same time. the ending of the book is surprise after surprise after surprise. if what I think everyone wants to happen in ACFTL doesn't happen, I will retaliate...

let me tell you that when i purchased this book, i was not picturing myself giving it a two-star rating, but here we are. i'm chalking it up to middle book syndrome.
i should mention that i absolutely loved the first book, every bit of it. it felt like i was wandering deeper into the world of caraval, being exposed to more fairytales and tragic stories. stephanie garber definitely knew that all of us were just itching to catch more glimpses of our beloved prince of hearts, jacks.
sadly, i was left mildly disappointed and extremely frustrated, particularly with the ending (which i will not be spoiling) but i must caution you, books will be hurled or tossed in irritation. my feelings towards the plot sort of fluctuates throughout because i wasn't sure where it was going. in a way, it just felt like a really long road trip with no destination.
to be honest, evangeline was not my favorite in this book. she was naive, stubborn and constantly oblivious in comparison to her personality in the first book. it felt like a big downgrade. as for jacks, i'm starting to feel like i've outgrown slowburn YA because i was just not feeling it; i know for a fact that if i read this a year ago, i would have been over the moon. i'm just glad we finally got to know his backstory.
nevertheless, i do appreciate stephanie's way with words and how she utilizes personification in an enchanting manner, blending objects and sounds with magic that it starts to visually unfold in your mind.
i look forward to the next book, i'm really counting on it to recompense for what i went through with this one
