Wow! this is at heart a second chance romance, one neither thought they would ever get. Charlee has been in love with Alden since high school, but she never thought he knew she existed. Fate brings them together years later just as Alden's music career is taking off.No spoilers, but their chemistry is instant, but when tragedy strikes will Alden be able to keep Charlee in his life? Will Charlee be able to to trust him, and her feelings, especially when Luci comes along? This made me laugh, shed a tear, want to yell at them but ultimately this makes your heart happy!!

Wowza! This book is an emotional juggernaut that just keeps coming at you. I laughed, cried, rolled my eyes, grimaced, gasped and so much more.

This was the first book I’ve read in this author’s Highway 17 series, but I promise it will not be my last. I feel in love with the side characters as much as I did with Alden and Charlene - the people who surround them are wonderful and the snippets of their stories that were mentioned just made me want to know everything about their individual relationship journeys.

The blurb for this story intrigued me, but I almost didn’t read this wonderful book based on a 2-star I read… everyone is untitled to their own opinion and we all have different interests and triggers. I’m just glad I decided to just give this book a try.

While Alden isn’t Luci’s birth father, he becomes her father when tragedy strikes and he needs to step up. This part of the book is so emotionally raw, yet incredibly beautiful.

Some would consider there to be a spoiler or two I don’t but anyhow you have been warned.
Characters & Chemistry.

We get a brief introduction of the MC when they go to high school but due to the heroine having to leave it is brief. Which is cute. I much preferred the teenaged Hero to the one we meet 13 years later.

So 13 years later…

Alden Beck has always wanted to sing ever since he was a teenager he finally achieves his goal but a tragic accident makes him lose his way. Did I like Alden? Not really. He took his horn dog ways a bit too far but he has great character development throughout the book and at the end I can tolerate him.

Charlee Rae Wright is finally living the dream of going to college to get her degree. After her Mum being so sick for so long and looking after her brother and sending him off to college it is her turn.

Fate apparently is fickle thing and Charlee and Alden meet again. Alden doesn’t recognise Charlee but Charlee sure does recognise Alden but she lies to him by saying her name is Rae until he finds out that she lied.

After all of this drama I was kind of exhausted but I did continue.

Now the chemistry there is that underlying sizzling between these two and although Charlee knows this they still have sex. There is a detailed sex scene with other woman. He tries to shag another woman to forget Charlee but with another woman’s lips on his dick he suddenly realises he can’t do it. Please as an author is this shite really necessary? Anywayz they have amazeball sex, wouldn’t know for sure as I kind of skimmed and then they decide to be friends. Yep cue the eyeroll cause I mean dude why say let’s forget it ever happened why to sly a woman on the spot you arse.

But what really rubbed me the wrong way was that Charlee put her classes on hold to look after Luci while Alden had to tour. Yes it was per contractual agreement so he had no choice but due to bringing up her little brother it was like she was putting her life on hold again.

Writing, Plot & Pace.

This is a new to me author and she knows how to write emotional settings with flawed characters. I have no complaints about the writing as she truly is talented but there are just other reasons why this book doesn’t work for me.

I am a sucker for a good old single Dad romance but here the blurb implied something that just wasn’t the case. Alden isn’t the father he is the guardian of his niece after his brother and sister-in-law die in a car accident. The baby is saved ad Alden then becomes the guardian of little Luci Renee. That is misleading in my opinion. Other than that the plot is solid although it has been used a time or two.

The pace of the book is good although there was no real balance between the hard times and the banter that was going on between these two. I feel that the flow of the story in regards to the emotions and what the author was aiming to achieve could have been smoother.

Verdict.

Unfortunately and this just seems to be me I liked the book but I didn’t love it. I also seem to be in the minority here as well but I am interested enough to check out some other books by this author. Just because it was a hit for me doesn’t mean it can’t and won’t be a hit for you.

Luci’s Lullaby is another fantastic book by Leaona Luxx. Not only is the cover insanely gorgeous but the story is so beautiful. It is steamy, it’s fully heartbreak, loss, love and everything in between. Definitely have your tissues ready because you will need them!

Alden and Charlee bumped into each other while in high school, and I mean that in the literal sense. Charlee, though two grades ahead of Alden, had a massive crush on him. She would watch him play his guitar and sing down the river. She didn’t think she would ever see the boy she fell in love with again when her family moved away to be closer to her uncle while her mom was battling cancer. Alden knew there was something different, something special about this girl and that he needed to talk to her, only he couldn’t find her at school to do so. As a high school freshman, his life changed forever when tragedy struck.

Now, 13 years later Alden has moved and is playing music and starting to make a name for himself when a girl walks into where he is playing and he has that feeling again. Charlee recognizes Alden instantly but won’t admit to him. The two end up spending the night together, but due to his player ways, they decide maybe it’s best to be friends.

Tragedy strucks Alden’s life again but he gains something just as precious, sweet baby Luci. Luci not only steals Alden’s heart, but also Charlee’s. As the chemistry continues to building between Alden and Charlee and his fame continues to build will they be able to withstand the pressure of a new relationship and all the issues life throws at them?

I also love going back to Cherry grove and getting back in touch with all of my favorites. This book, like all the others, did not disappoint. I always look forward to new books from this author. If you love strong chemistry between characters and emotional stories then this one is definitely for you.
