Though this is the second in the series it can be read stand-alone. This story has everything. Hot Scots, pirates (both good and bad), magic, action, adventure and love. What is not to like? You don’t have to be a fan of historical romance to get a kick out of this book but fans of the genre will enjoy it too. This is an all around fun read.
I received a copy from NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.

A tangled web

Another greatly entertaining read from Heather McCollum!

I loved this. I loved the first book in this series too, and I loved this one just as much, even though it had a totally different feel to it. The reason it felt so different was, without doubt, the heroine Pandora (Dory) Wyatt. She was fantastic! A feisty little tinker with a mind of her own, who doesn't need anyone (yes, including YOU Ewan Brody) telling her what to do. Raised by a bunch of marauding pirates, and concealing a power greater than any we've seen so far, she's definitely led an interesting life. She also just happens to be the long lost daughter of the villain from book one. So, you could say complicated is her middle name, and Ewan Brody is well known for not doing complicated. Until now...

*****

Pandora was a heroine with such heart, I loved her from her first scene. Though technically a lady, her unorthodox upbringing means she's neither noble nor common, but somewhere in between. I think it's probably best you don't try to label her. She probably wouldn't like it anyway.

Ewan is a handsome devil that's never had any problem finding a willing lass. He's never wanted more than that, either, thanks to childhood memories of his parents' less-than-blissful marriage. He's quite literally knocked for six, therefore, by his protective feelings for Dory, having never wished for the responsibility of having to care for a woman before. What makes her so different? Heh. What doesn't? She's a witch, a pirate, a lady, and a menace, who somehow hoodwinks him into agreeing to free her pirate father from King Henry VIII's tower while posing as her husband!

I loved the story—the pirate bits and the setting of King Henry's court. I loved the romance and the nail-biting conclusion. I will most definitely be reading from this author again!

A thoroughly enjoyable read - 4 Stars! ★★★★

As long as you're willing to let go of historical expectations, I think Tangled Hearts is a blast. A witch-pirate-daughter-of-a-traitor enlists the aid of a Highlander to rescue her pseudo-father and pseudo-brother from the Tower of London.

Yup.

There's magic, there's jousting, there's a sea battle and, of course, a solid bit of romance and passion. Pandora can hold her own with the brawny Highlanders who start to surround her, the pirates she grew up with and the even more dangerous nobles and hangers-on of the court of Henry VIII.

Tangled Hearts is a lot of fun to read, and I recommend it.

This is the first book I've read by this author but it definitely won't be my last! Pirates, witches and gorgeous men? What else could I ask for? Such a good book! I picked it up and couldn't put it down. I'm going to be dragging at work today after staying up late reading it. Love the heroine. It's always good to read about a woman who has a mind of her own and is not afraid to use it!

Tangled Hearts by Heather McCollum is a January 2014 Entangled Pubication. I was provided a copy of the this by the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Pandora Wyatt was raised by pirates, is a witch, and is the daughter of an alleged traitor to the king.
Ewan Brody is a Scottish Highlander on a mission to bring the deceased traitor to Henry the 8th. Along the way he rescues Pandora from certain death, as she was about to be executed for being a witch. Ewan gets more than he bargained for when Dory convinces him and his cousin to help her rescue the pirate captain that raised her, who happens to be imprisioned in the tower.
Passing themselves off as a married couple, things get complicated for the couple as Dory's true parentage is discovered, there is a plot to kill the king, and Ewan could be blamed. Amidst all the drama and intrigued Dory and Ewan fall in love.
This story has a mixture of fantasy, history, the paranormal, and romance but is set against the backdrop of actual history during the Tudor years. The author embellishes history and turns it into speculative fiction and it turns out to be quite a charming story.
Dory is an awesome character with magical abilities and fierce loyalty. Ewan is very honorable and a true gentleman. You will love Dory and Ewan as well as the secondary characters.
The only issue I had with the story was that it was little confusing at times, maybe complicated would be a better word. In other words I had to really slow down and read carefully or I would have lost the thread. A time or two the story lost a little momentum, but not for long.

Although this is the second book in the series, you will not have a problem reading it as a stand alone. If you like pirates, magic, history, highlanders, adventure, and romance you don't want to miss this one.
This one gets an A.

I received a copy of this book from the Entangled Publishing and the author in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated in any way.

I think you will find that this is going to be a light-hearted tale. Heather writes a scene where Dory comes upon a woman who reminds me of a certain actress – but make sure to read to the very end. Our author puts in a “Historical Note” that explains more about this lady (but I still thought of the actress which gave me a great character reference while reading).

There may be times where you may not want to be reading on a full stomach or even eating. Our author’s descriptions are that realistic. You can just about picture everything that’s going on – as well as the smells. Heather has given our couple a grand adventure but it’s not all serious – it kept me laughing that’s for sure. I think that if you’ve never read any of her work before, this is the perfect introduction.

Heather gives her readers the perfect ending. And she continues the action almost to the very end. She is one of those authors that makes me enjoy a historical romance. She turns something that wasn’t very interesting when I was in school into a history lesson that I thoroughly enjoyed. This is a book that can be read as a stand-alone but I found that I wanted to know more about a couple of her characters. In order to do this, I will need to go back and read book one.
