I read this book as part of a challenge I joined.

I have to admit, regardless of my advanced age, I'm really enjoying the books in the Bird Brain series. Each book is charming and teaches a valuable lesson to the kids who might read or listen to the story. Tommy's story is no different. Tommy and his friend think that they deserve something that isn't theirs and go about taking it. Eventually, they learn that what they did was not right and that they will do better next time. They even go about trying to fix the wrong they've done. This is so important for kids to learn...that they can make mistakes and realize they were wrong and still right those wrongs and be forgiven.

I think this book would be great for elementary aged students, I've been saying between 1st and 3rd grade, but I think even in Kindergarten or preschool if it's read to them, the kids would really get something out of the stories.

It was an ok story. A lot of reading, so younger children might get bored. Pictures are cute.

Tommy Goes Trick-Or-Treating is a cute story about a woodpecker who discovers the wonders of Halloween when his friend Michael explains it to him. Deciding he wants to join the fun, Tommy goes with Michael to see if he can get some candy like the kids do. When nothing the pair does gets them the treats they think they deserve, they take matters into their own hands. But the pair soon realize that candy isn't all it's cracked up to be.

The moral of the story is a good one, although I did think, in this particular Bird Brain book, it might not come across as well as in some of the other books. Some little kids may not understand at first and think that what Tommy and Michael do is ok, even though, at the end, they realize it's not and decide to make it right.

However, that being said, I did find this story to be fun and adorable. My 8 1/2 month old liked looking at the pictures and listening to me read it to him. Overall, Tommy Goes Trick-or-Treating is a good story with a good lesson at the end of it. 4 stars.
