This could just as easily be called "Empanadas *from* Everyone" -- doesn't every culture have some form of dumpling or meat (or meatless) pastry? Hubs once had a coworker describe what I would call potstickers as "Chinese ravioli", and frankly, they're not wrong! I love how the community came together to share the secrets of their cultures' empanadas, samosas, patties, pierogies, & jiaozi. Food shared builds love and community.

Empanadas for Everyone shines a positive light on a community's diversity. That's what I strive for as a writer of children's books.

When her aunt is out volunteering at a food kitchen, Carina must collect the ingredients for their weekly empanadas herself. Along the way she makes neighborhood connections and notices how each culture she interacts with has its own empanada-like food. Extremely wholesome and sweet, with beautiful illustrations.

Loved this picture book that helps the reader understand - through empanadas and their cultural cousins - that we’re all the same and different, too.
