A fun story from beginning to end. I particularly enjoyed hearing Arthur's perspective of all of the miraculous (and not so miraculous) events he was experiencing. I found Zaphod to be an interesting character. At first he sounded pompous and annoying; however, as the book went on I found myself relating to his lack of introspection as to why he does the things that he does. Sometimes in life it is too difficult to think about the things that happen to us, as well as how we react to those events. It was interesting to relate to this character.

Ford Prefect was my favourite character d/t his combination of wit and humour to Arthur's predicament.

I found the ending unsatisfying; however, that might have been the point. After all, even Zaphod does not understand why he does the things he does.

I read this years ago and found it kind of meh, but my friends and my husband recently convinced me I HAD to read it again. So I did. And I came to the conclusion that I am just not a fan of absurdity. I appreciate why so many people enjoy Douglas Adams, but, whew!, for me it was a slog. Apologies to all of my friends who adore Arthur and Zaphod and Trillian and the gang.

I've been reading this series over the course of the past year and then some. I thoroughly enjoyed the first book, but the more I read, the more it dissolved into a fever dream. I treaded on because of the comedic absurdity, but I could not have explained the plot to you (if there even was a plot). I also found it kind of sad that for a book dealing with literal aliens, somehow earthly stereotypes and sexist jokes continued to make an appearance. oh well.
