This is a book of misunderstandings and how they can  influence your perspective of others and yourself. It's both frustrating and hysterical at times.

I am a huge fan of the Columbus Day series, by Alanson. I didn't have a lot of expectations when I started this book, only to find that this new series might be even better than his other series.

I would have given this series five stars if not for the utterly unbelievable series of unfortunate events to befall the main character, Koren. Craig Alanson is an good writer and I loved his series Expeditionary Force, but geez, if book two of his Ascendant series is filled with any more dumb decisions and choices by his characters I'm gonna flip. Dear god, must they make one bad choice after another? I get it, Koren needs to suffer some trials and tribulations in order to become the hero he is meant to be but must these obstacles be dumb decisions made by people who are supposed to be leaders of the Kingdom? FFS

(Audible version)
Nothing original in the story.
Spoiler14 year old boy is found to be the most powerful wizard in the land. there is a war of course, Orks bad. Humans good. Neighboring nations are basically China & India & Spain but names a bit different seemed like a rip-off
Since its so song, at lulls i kept thinking to myself that I would hate it in the end, but ending surprised me by making me actually tear up about the protagonist.

So 3* because its nowhere close to a top read, but a good one if you dont have anything better.

From farmer to sorcerer's attendant, Koren fights his reputation as a jinx. He is not told of his skills as a sorcerer but is apparently exceptionally adept at everything else he does. A little improbable but keeps the reader's attention.

I feel like this book could have done a lot more leg work on its own with relying on character miscommunications to drive the plot.
