A really lovely companion to the books that speaks more to what's happening planetside. Worth a read even if you haven't read the series, though the context helps.

This is a short story that is free on tor.com. (Kindle preview has no text, don’t bother). It’s a fine story, but lacking some of the charm that Elma brings

This was an o.k. short story. I didn't feel strongly motivated to get through it, even though it was short, largely because the main character just wasn't as compelling as Elma York, nor the plot as driving as driving as The Calculating Stars. I appreciate some extra color on the universe, and getting to see what other characters were doing, but I think it highlighted the shortcomings of short fiction--it's just not enough words for us to get attached to the characters, and there is only so much extra worldbuilding you can do in a world you've already partially built.
