Listened to audiobook. I would rate this 3.5 stars. I like the premise and the idea of a puzzle for kids to solve that meant delving into the past. However, even though I have read the Westing Game, I could assume a lot of children have not and it seemed like a prerequisite for reading this book considering how many references to that book were included.

The reader of the audiobook did a very nice job and the pacing of the story was good. I appreciate how the author brought up racism and LGBTQ issues in a way that is respectful and understandable to young children. Satisfying ending.

I didn't love this book as much as I expected. Pulling heavily on The Westing Game, the mystery was fun and well-written done, but dragged a bit in places. I loved the Civil Rights story tied in, but all the different voices, and all the different characters got confusing at times.
