Thank you to NetGalley and Europe Comics for providing me with a free review copy. Hematite is available for purchase now.

I love this book and I cannot wait for the volume 2 that i assume will happen because you can’t end on the note of
necromancy
and not publish another volume. The universe alone is so fun; it’s a mix of humans and vampires and werewolves and skeletons and witches and familiars and all that good stuff.

Hematite is a vampire from a rich and well-known family and her parents despise the fact that she attends a public school and eats mushroom-and-vegetable broth rather than the vampires-only academy and traditional blood diet that they would prefer. Hematite only has one friend who tries to help her open up and show the other kids at their school that Hem is more than just vampire stereotypes and prejudices.

They all go on an adventure together, the events which lead to Hem’s internal journey on who she is and how she uses her powers and her privilege as a vampire and what that means about her. This story covers themes of privilege, obviously, self identity, overcoming prejudices, and good ol’ fashioned friendship. The writing is all dialogue so it’s short and easy to read and accessible for readers of all ages and skill level.
