i think i’ll take a crack at this again when i have a fully developed brain, but for now i was mostly just looking at the pages. i think joyce is brilliant and im glad someone noticed because i never would have published this text, but i can definitely see its literary merit. joyce is a kinky guy but its not really a bad thing if a character drinks pee i think it has a certain chill quality to it even if i’m not into that. i wish i could give a fully-fleshed out review, but this novel truly felt beyond my personal comprehension.

They are right. This annoying monster is incredible. It's dazzling, pretentious, delightful, hilarious, and really truly does make you look at literature differently

I think it's the best book of the 20th century

Yes. I finished Ulysses tonight. Yes I did yes and I did yes.

...So! This is what it feels like to step out of the page and into the sensual world.

UPDATE:

Ulysses is dangerous. It’s dangerous because there’s just so much in it. If you’re a nerdy little bookworm like me, you could spend a lifetime going over all the little details. Follow that dog. That piece of paper. All of the repeating structural patterns.

Ulysses isn’t for everyone. Most people will hate this book, even people who love books. And it’s not an easy read. But me? I think I could read Ulysses over again forever and fall a little bit more in love with it each time.

Hell, metempsychosis. Maybe I’ve been reading Ulysses over for a lifetime or two now. Maybe I will read this book for a few more lifetimes, too. It would not surprise me.

That was probably the hardest thing I've read. I was following along pretty well, sparknotes on standby, until about halfway through when the structure of the book got away from me and got more more difficult to keep track of what exactly was going on. If I ever take this beast on again I think I'd like to do it with someone if only to talk through it. It's daunting and I have upmost respect for Joyce (not that I didn't already; I adore what I've read of his prior to this) for not boxing himself in. It's a really admirable piece of work no matter what you think or make of it.
