Continuing to read bout the time of Warhol and his people and his art. It was in I think early 60s when Warhol began to experiment with making films and I think first was when he filmed his boyfriend John Giorno sleeping and he had his first film camera Bolex. this film he called Sleep and it was long. In time he got a better movie camera Auricon. I think his last films were at end of 60s or early 1970s. I think the last one (which I recently saw at SF MOMA) was about surfers and surfing and was done in Hawaii or San Diego.
I believe that Douglas Crimp did a credible writing and analyzing of Warhol films. He definitely saw many of them. He wrote about 3 days at MOMA in nYC their Film Archive where he joined a friend. MOMA has access to most of the Warhol films.
Crimp definitely likes Warhol and admires his film making and from that perspective he writes really well on the subject.
