Overall, a masterful narration and a solid production overall. In a world where audiobooks can sorta start to blend together, this one puts forward a phenomenal one-man-show that lets it stand out. I think there could have been some tweaks to audio editing to allow quieter moments better clarity, but that might not be an issue with headphones and/or slower playback. If you're looking for an audiobook that highlights the power of a voice actor in affecting emotion and general storytelling, Concrete Rose is definitely one to check out.

Amazing read with great storytelling. Angie Thomas is a great writer and I’m happy I was able to receive a signed copy of this book.

So I needed something to read for pride that had a red cover on it (trying to read the rainbow during the summer) and I knew Angie Thomas was a well known author but this exceeded my expectations on portraying the life of a black male teenager in the late 90’s. I’m the type of reader where if I know a series has a prequel - I tend to want to read that first to get an idea of any backstory before I spot the Easter eggs in the other novels. This is Starr’s father’s storyline and it has a bisexual character (I’m not going to spoil who it is) but finishing Maverick’s story today made me put the other two novels by Angie Thomas on hold in the library. Definitely worth reading. I cried, laughed and held on for the ride. A few things here and there could have been altered yet it doesn’t change how important this book is.

wholesome!! after reading The Hate U Give, I really wanted to know more about Maverick so this was great. the grammar style is different from what I’m used to but wasn’t difficult or anything, especially when I was reading quicker, I barely even noticed the change.
