Love, loved this book! Amazing how this author built such endearing characters in such a short amount of pages.

It was such an emotional book, I found myself cracking up, falling on love, ugly crying and feeling that tingly feel that only love bigger than life can make you feel. I am desperately suffering from a killer book-hangover now.
Counting days for its companion!

Boo on this book. Why do so many YA contemporary novels fall flat like this? It tried too hard to be different and dramatic. The dialogue was very unrealistic in how teens talk. And seriously, after everything this main character went through, she should be seeing a therapist. Everyone involved in her story should be seeing a therapist. And I don't mean that as an insult. I mean that as a concerned person who worries that teens who read stories like this expect life to be that "romantic and exiting" when in reality it is just really messed up.

This Raging Light

Very sweet and heart felt read, but had some things lacking for me. It wasn't the tradition love story (between Lucille and Digby) that I was hoping for going into; but that also worked perfectly to steer clear of the cliches and made it an interesting story or a teenager placed in a very adult situation and focused on the interactions between the two sisters, Lucille and Wren.

I really disliked Eden, I felt she was a terrible friend and at times Digby too. They could both be (but mostly Eden) extremely selfish and inconsiderate of the situation Lucille was in. Who really GAF about your suckass ballet Eden, Lu is raising a ten year old by herself while trying to dodge social services!

I figured out the guardian angel twist pretty early on and that was seriously the most redeeming quality of the book.

Digby and this love triangle was pointless, the back and forth he played was very unfair to Lucille and made me dislike him at times.

All in all I say it's a short and heartfelt story that worth the read.

I am trying to compose my thoughts. I LOVED this book. I knew nothing of what it was about, so everything was a surprise. Lucille's voice is beautful, the writing is beautiful, and the story is so filled with hope and love and humor even when things are hard.

I wish I were the type of person who underlined books because there are so many beautiful, quotable lines in THIS RAGING LIGHT. Estelle Laure is an author to watch and I will leave you with a few, but know they might change as this is an advanced copy:

"There is a scar now on my arm, where he touched me. It forms on my skin, watery blue, shimmery sort of, like how burns get shiny sometimes, after. How the burnt skin is new at the same time as it's forever damaged. I am dramatic."

"Music carries the weight of being human, takes it away so you don't have to think at all, you just have to listen. Music tells every story there is."

"Explain to me what the point of living is if you aren't willing to fight for the truths in your heart, to risk getting hurt. You have to rage."

Okay. I cried more than I probably should have. This book is meant to make you tear up a bit (like once or twice), not make you have a tearfest like I did. I'll attribute my emotional instability to hormones. I liked the story well enough. If you are hoping for a lot of romance this book comes up short, but you don't really care you focus more on the Main character's other problems to the point where you just want to yell "who cares about stupid Digby the effing sky is falling." Also she didn't quite sound her age I would have thought her to be a 15 year old had they not mentioned her age. I was satisfied with the end even if it was a tad unbelievable I mean...

****spoilerish not really but just in case*****

who wouldn't call child protective services for two abandoned minors right?

I received an advanced copy through goodreads first reads.

This raging light is an interesting book for the young adult genre. It doesn't remind me of any books I've read. This raging light follows a girl who was abandoned by both her parents and left to hide this fact in order to keep her sister. With the help of her best friend and best friends brother she has to figure out a way to keep a float and keep her missing mother a secret. It's an enjoyable story that shows how far you will go to protect the ones you love.
