I love cats and they can definitely change your life, which is why I wanted to read this. it's a humbling and loving story. however there was a lot of repetition and plenty of mistakes which was a tad offputting.

A Street Cat Named Bob is one of the first few animal-centered novels that I read and loved deep in my heart. Even though Bowen is not a professional writer, I did appreciate that he took the time and effort to write this novel and tell his story and adventures with Bob in the streets of London, busking around and getting his life back on track.

James was: stubborn, pessimist, cynic, easily distracted but with Bob, he's suddenly happy, caring, friendly.

James never thought that a cat would change his life for the better. He then learned to busk in Covent Garden to earn coins enough to feed not only himself but his new pet as well. The adorable street cat taught James to care for it, be responsible for it and instantly they both developed a connection with each other. In fact, it's funny to think that Bob is so clever to choose James to be its new owner knowing that he too, has an empty stomach but I'm glad Bob did. Throughout the story, Bowen let me see how this cat did everything on purpose to change him as he keeps seeing a brighter day with Bob - not only as he earns more when he's with it, but the respect he gains from people since having a company.

That's the reason I enjoyed reading what they do and where they go even if it's just a repetitive process because in the end, it all comes to realizing not how to live a wealthy life or forget life's struggles, but appreciate how special life can be even with a cat and the busy life in the streets. Definitely, Bob has been more than a drug-rehab for James to live life to the fullest again.

Veramente carino, si legge in un soffio. :) Purtroppo, ma aveva la sua età, Bob è da poco mancato. :(

A heart warming beautiful story. Everybody should read the story of a street cat named Bob and his owner. When you read the book you love them both so much. They became your family. I recommend this book to everyone.

This has been one of my best reads of how someone can be turned round due to a love of an animal

Heartwarming story about how animal companionship can change your world for the better. However I have several issues with the language used in the book, I can’t count the amount of times I’d wanted to DNF.

There are complaints that the world around him doesn’t treat him like a human being but he is so quick to judge other people and not in a good way - “staffies and their Neanderthal owners” and they way he continually talks down on other addicts “a gambling addict…all he did he did was pump it (his money) straight back into fruit machines” despite at that time being a heroin addict himself.

We are continually told that the whole world is out to get him. He takes no responsibility for his actions, even when he knows he is in the wrong - selling The Big Issue on the streets away from his ‘pitch’ / telling us that other vendors had been drinking on the job, which is against the basic rules only to then admit in the same paragraph that he’s done it before. He continually boldly tries to deny his actions and their consequences.

The hostility towards the vets and vet practices at the beginning was entirely unnecessary and there’s so much I could say on that but won’t delve into.

I picked this up because I needed a nonfiction book for a challenge. Usually I don't read nonfiction, but this was actually enjoyable. It was a quick and easy enjoyable read. The writing is not perfect, but the story is good enough to make me want to finish the book.

Hopeful and uplifting story about a man who befriends a stray cat and how that cat helps him overcome drug dependency.
