The Woodcutter family is of great importance and mystery. Sunday is featured throughout the novel, but her other siblings are liberally mentioned along with godmothers, magic, and royalty. Kontis weaves together an amazing new fairytale story. Readers can pick out individual story lines from classic tales, but be prepared to be reading in a new direction! I hope Kontis shares more of the Woodcutter world. I long for more information about the sisters, Jack, and Trix.

Retold fairytale: Umm...all of them!? It was an amazing number of stories crafted together.

Imagine taking all of the fairy tales you can think of, throwing them in the blender and what you end up with is Enchanted. It is a fast paced fairy tale mash-up that has your head spinning at times, but in a good way that keeps you going to the end. Seriously all of the fairy tales are represented. A book that would appeal to middle grader readers as well as YA ones.

Despite the cover (I really didn't rate the cover at all: apart from finding the model quite annoying - which is a pity because I really warmed to the character - the dress was completely wrong from the story and it all looked posed and stiff) this was a thoroughly enjoyable read incorporating many sly references to fairy tales in the plot. These worked within the plot very well and there were patches of lovely writing, but because it wasn't consistent these sometimes stuck out uneasily, that is sometimes the book was about just plain good storytelling and sometimes it was about lyrical prose. Also, I am starting to grow weary of worldly-wise punning on the part of characters in fairy tales. This was refreshing in the first book that I read using this tone but is starting to wear thin. All in all, however, a very good example of its genre and definitely worth reading. I am looking forward to the next in the series (and not only because it is about Saturday!)

I enjoyed this one. I didn't love it as much as I wanted because I felt like I was coming in smack in the middle of story. Sometimes that's fun trying to work out where things fit together but this time it mostly confused me. But overall a fun read and I would recommend it to students. I will check out the next installment which I hope is coming out soon.

Enchanted is a wonderful retelling of the fairytale the Frog Prince. It's not quite the story you may remember from childhood. The heroine isn't a spoiled princess, she's the daughter of a woodcutter with an unusual family. And the prince's enchantment is far more complicated than in the original story.

Sunday is the youngest of a large family, who often feels out of place among her rather odd siblings. One day, she meets a talking frog and they strike up an unlikely friendship, with feelings that could be turning to something more. One day, the frog is gone, and Sunday mourns his loss. Unbeknownst to her, the frog has turned back into the prince he was before he was enchanted. Prince Rumbold has fallen in love with Sunday, and he wants to win her over, but it’s not going to be easy because her family has reason to hate him. Sunday and Rumbold (or Grumble as she first knows him) are both engaging characters, and her crazy family is very entertaining.

In addition to being a loose retelling of the Frog Prince, Enchanted also takes bits and pieces of many other well-known fairy tales, like Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, the Princess and the Pea, and Sleeping Beauty. Fans of fairy tales and retellings will likely enjoy this book.

I received an ARC from Amazon Vine.

It was like a delightful dessert- a fanciful and fantastic weaving together of fairy tales that's not along the Fables/Once Upon a Time methods.

Entertaining, but not amazing.

Insta-love. Weird, detached narration. Unlikable love interest.

Meh.

Solid 4/5 Stars.

I totally would have rated this higher (it fit my mood perfectly), but I got tired of the protagonist after awhile.

Enchanted has been on my library TBR list for YEARS and I finally decided to bite the bullet and read it. I was pleasantly surprised! I am not very much into fairy tale remakes/fairy tales generally, but Konis has done a wonderful job creating a very unique fairy-tale hybrid -- weaving together familiar elements and arcs into something refreshing and that kept me interested until the very last.

This book follows the Woodcutter family, specifically one of their seven daughters: Sunday. Sunday is the youngest daughter and one day meets a man enchanted into a frog in the woods. They become friends, she tries to break the spell -- no spoilers -- and adventure ensues for her and her family. Sunday has a few other sisters that play key roles in this tale: Wednesday, Saturday, and Friday. Note: Saturday and Friday get their own novels in this series.

While Sunday is introductory main character, I felt that later characters (the Prince) becomes more of a focal point and others are definitely more interesting. I eventually became very tired of Sunday, especially after being introduced to the others in the novel. Kontis has done an excellent job of balancing character backstories with world building, and wrapping up this tale while setting up readers for MORE.

I likely will read the second book, depending on my mood. It may take years again, however.

At first I thought this book was almost too cute but then it took kind of a dark turn. I enjoyed the story and I'll read the rests of the series at some point but I'm not in a rush.
