Not 'My Brilliant Career'. Published 1983 but written 1915. From Franklin's 'American phase. Male narrator is a 'bachelor of means' who falls for an independent woman,  Sybyl, a stenographer and partner in her own business.  This is complicated when she starts a relationship with wealthy Bobby. Then WWI starts in Europe...

Lots of talk about WOMEN, and feminism,  hopdoodling and ishkabibble!.. seems very unrealistic and juvenile. The feminist male narrator doesn't work.
