Maybe 25% about the actual dictionary definition of gardens, 25% quotes from the dictionary or other sources, and 50% about the different environments and circumstances of the author's and her family's lives. It would have worked much better for me if the author did not jump around in both time and place from section to section, linking topics as one might when pondering life while gazing out a window at a garden. There is a purpose to this book, but it felt meandering and not at all what was promised by the back copy.

DNF. I was so looking forward to reading this book! I got about a third of the way through. The inconsistent narrative style and heavy-handed metaphors and themes makes it read like a college entrance essay.
