Nothing personal against Superman or the plot, it's just that it started getting boring for me and since this is my first time reading a Superman comic I think that's why certain things were confusing. Still I'm interested in Superman

I like this story, but I think it was a bit over hyped. I was expecting something with a little more depth. But that could just be my fault for creating those expectations.

Man I've slept on Superman as a character for too long and this is one of the best ways to start imo.

this is just word vomit so please bare with me, but it's with a heavy heart that i say that all star superman was a bit of a letdown. i think it had a lot of potential but the pacing always felt off - too many things were introduced too quickly and with zero explanation or satisfying conclusions. perhaps it's because i'm not as familiar with superman's lore as grant morrison clearly is, but there was so much thrown at the audience that just wasn't expanded on enough. seeing morrison's notes on the characters at the end of this edition really solidified to me that he had good ideas, but by not actually putting them in the story, all those characters he introduced felt flat. lois lane felt flat to me!!! clark kent felt flat to me!!! (although i do admire quitely's ability to make him look so different from kal-el.) in general, this writing failed to make me feel as connected to the story and to the characters as it probably aimed to. i think this might just be an issue i have with morrison's writing in general though, because i felt similarly after reading volume 1 of green lantern: intergalactic law.

some of the issues in the middle just felt very boring to me because of what i talked about above.

this may be controversial to say, but from what i can remember, the movie is better.

all this isn't to say that the book was entirely bad! i found superman's unwavering love of humanity so beautiful, and although i know some people dislike the art, i enjoyed it!

i still like superman as a character, and i want to find stories of him that take the time to allow the audience to really get to know him and his world. unfortunately, i don't think this comic did that well enough. maybe one day i'll revisit it with a more knowledgeable perspective and enjoy it more though!

My first read of the year, and what a wholesome way to start! I don't know much about Superman, so I'm sure a bunch of references went over my head, but I was really emotional regardless.
