I read this because I loved the Netflix series so much, and I loved this book even more. It still managed to surprise me and was pretty different from the series.

There’s a lot of misogyny, the dates Christian judgement of the author, and a boy who’s about to ship out with the Military having sex with a 14yo in graphic detail. It’s super vile!!!! In the Netflix show, they age up the characters to early 20s, college-age so the romance is an actual romance instead of clearly grooming.

Most of the sec scenes are fairly graphic, there’s a lot of quaint, feel-good descriptions of the remote small town in the forested mountains of California type of descriptions.
