When I was still in high school I had an episode of sleep paralysis. I can't remember if I had taken a nap after school, or had gone to bed early, but either way I woke up in my bed and it was dark outside. The light in my bedroom was off, and the door from my room to the kitchen was open. I remember being on my back, looking around, unable to move, and feeling this sort of malicious presence. I know how ridiculous that sounds, but there was this sort of pressure in the room. I looked to the side of me and just like in this book I saw a dark shape standing off to the side. I couldn't make out the form of it, except that it was tall and wispy, and that it started to float towards me. I remember trying to scream for my mom but no sound came out that I could hear, but she apparently did and came to check on me. When she turns don the light I could move again and the thing was gone. I'm almost positive I slept in my sister's bed the rest of the night.

That only happened once.

Doing research afterwards I read where many people who experience sleep paralysis report they see, or feel, some sort of evil presence.

Anyway, I love that this book centers around that. It's a subject matter that's not often talked about, but has great potential to create an intriguing story, as this does.

I feel anyone who has experienced sleep paralysis will find it relatable, and accurate.

I appreciated the twist at the end, but I do wish I had gotten to know some of the other characters a bit more. Because I hadn't formed a connection with them, the ending was not as impactful as it may have meant to be.

And I did have some questions afterwards.

For this to be a short story, I thought it brought a lot to the table!
