I love this series... this one is the best of the three so far.

I really enjoyed this book about a police detective and his K9 companion. Both Gideon and his dog, Sirius, were injured in a fire a few years ago, and Gideon still suffers from bad dreams. One night, Sirius wakes Gideon up and makes him follow him outside, where they find the lost dog of the title, who has been injured and is close to death.

We know through a separate story line that the dog, Angie, was abused in the past and finds it very difficult to trust anyone other than her owner. Sirius is able to calm Angie enough that they can get her to a vet to be looked over. As the vet is examining Angie, they discover that even though she is missing her collar, she is chipped, and they find out who her owner is.

It turns out that the owner is missing, though, and can't be found.

The only problem I had with this novel was the preponderance of puns, but I suppose it did serve to lighten the subject matter. I didn't realize that this was the third book in a series; it reads fine as a standalone, but I will go back now and read the other two.

Highly recommended.

I received this book from NetGalley in return for an honest review.

Over-used plot line

The main story is completely detailed within the first few chapters. The killer is easily identifiable, the motive clear, and the sickness grotesque. The secondary plot line is actually more interesting, but sadly took a backseat to the "big one".
Not a fan of this one. It was pretty terrible.

This is the first book in this series I have read. I really liked this. There is an adopted bloodhound named Angie. She has been through a bumpy life. Her owner is Heather Moreland. When her house is broken into, she puts Angie out a window to get help, and to protect her.

Detective Gideon works with his canine, Sirius. If he, Sirius and Angie don't find Heather, she might not live. If they are too late, she might not be alive when they find her. There is some major abuse, that you can skip over if you like.

Over all I liked it well enough, and loved the dogs. My copy came from Net Galley in exchange for my honest review and nothing more.

I love the Gideon and Sirius series. I tend to read a lot of *cop* books and most of them are horribly and hopelessly bad in their representation of police. This series is different- it is the most realistic. It also has a great story and characters that you can really relate to.

Demented bad guy here

While we still get the laughs from Gideon, Sirius and the rest, the big case in this book is very disturbing and was quite hard to read. There were other mysteries to solve, too and that lightened the horror some. Love this series and really hope a 4th book is in the works!
