An anthology I was gifted with another prize win.
Fantasy not really my thing, magic shoes in general being OK as a concept I found the collection good.
The Indian based Cinderella story was good, I enjoyed.
Also quite liked the steampunk/witchcraft mash up - almost but not quite a click your heels 3 times story!
We also had a mental health worker with implants and shoes to help her work and eleven shoe makers.
We had all colours of the rainbow combinations, MM, FF, MFF, MF and ace I think, though the last story was as much a mystery to me at the end as the beginning, probably an enchanted step too far for me.

Read this for my ace book club and had mixed feelings about the stories. But this does an amazing job at rep.

My favorite was the 4th story, Aelfwear, about a shoemaking elf partnering up with a socialite to drive her finance mad (who happens to be the elf's ex). Great writing, great characters, and it was so good to fashion given this type of power.

I also liked the first story, Three Nights, which had an Indian feeling and deals with a guy's shoes forcing him to be near a prince. I really liked it because it addressed the nuances of a potential relationship with royalty, and the answer wasn't just "come live in the palace and let me take care of you".

The ace story (the reason we picked this) is the last story, Into the Hallowed Veil, is about a guy helping a strange woman break the curse on her lover. I liked the world, not so much the characters, but this is the first ace story I've read where different points on the spectrum are seen. Usually one ace character is all we see in a story, and here we had two?? It was pretty cool to read.
