Using my first Playaway book. So this is only getting "read" when I jog or take long car trips to the stake center!
I finally ran enough to finish this book. It was different to read this so slowly, but the format of serial installments (originally printed in a newspaper) made it easy to follow that way anyway. This was not my favorite 44 Scotland St book, but it was nonetheless enjoyable and I found myself smiling at the well known characters at times and I think I even remember laughing out loud once which is not like me--esp. while running!
3 and a half

I so enjoyed listening to this book as performed on this audio version. The narrator adds so much to the story with his skill at voicing the men and women (and pets and children, too)! I'm looking forward to the next installment in the series - truly one of the author's best.

Okay, I'm saying I finished it even though I haven't. But I got to 72% and I just can't torture myself anymore. I like Alexander McCall Smith; The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency series is one of my favorites. But this...I found it, well, unbearable. The dialogue is completely unbelievable, and the characters are just the exact same characters as every other one of his books, only less interesting. And why is everybody so old-fashioned? Anyway, didn't like it, moving on.

Another of McCall Smith's series, this is from a newspaper serial about 44 Scotland Street and the lives of those in the building. I can't praise enough the writing and characterisation.
