I wasn't as crazy about this book as I was the other Christopher Moore books I have read, but it is important to note that I still love him with all of my heart. ;)

There were a few weird Hawaiian history references in this that got under my skin, and it was a bit too Sci-Fi for my taste, but it was still a great read. And I loved that it was set on Maui in Hawaii. The character Kona, while a bit over the top at first, was much fun. I grew up around a few guys like him, and his character provided a lot of comic relief. I found myself laughing at loud at a lot of his comments and antics.

I also learned more about the biology of whales than I ever wanted to know, ha.

So here's the basic premise of the story. Nate is a whale researcher, currently studying the song of the humpbacks. But as he seems to be getting closer to the meaning of the humpback's song, it becomes clear that someone or something doesn't want him to solve this particular mystery.

As with all of Christopher Moore's books, I highly recommend it.

It was fine. It's Christopher Moore so it contained the same completely ridiculous characters and caricatures as he always has. It was funny in that "12-year-old boy trapped in an adult's body" kind of way. One thing I can always say for Christopher Moore - there are no extraneous details. No matter how silly, inane, or ridiculous a throw-away comment seems, he will tie it all back together in the end. Even when the story is absurd there is a lot of attention to detail- in both plot and factual content.

So, it was fun. I wouldn't highly recommend it. But it was fun.

In my opinion, Fluke is not quite as funny as Lamb, but it is still a great read that is full of that fabulous-Moore absurdity and wit.

The beginning was fun and fairly typical of Moore. The end was just dumb.
