This in my opinion is one of the better “endings” to a series. It has an amazing build up to the main plot and a great world building structure. Things finally start to fall into place for Charlie when he finally gets his father back after believing he was gone forever.

This is a fun series, along the lines of Harry Potter. The books don't move as fast time wise. This is the 7th book and Charlie is only 13 years old I believe. This particular book in the series felt like I had read it before. It was reworking themes from the other books and I was disappointed. I put it down and picked it up a few times to get through it. But, the cliff hanger makes me want to read #8. (Middle School aged readers.)

*Spoiler alert* YES YES YES YES YES!!!

Tancred is alive!! I was really disappointed when I thought Jenny killed off one of my favorite characters .. But I was so glad that he survived the drowning *wohoo*.

Things are getting so interesting that I can't wait to finish the last installment of this series which is Charlie Bone and the red knight.

Will start reading it tomorrow hopefully.

I don't know why I read these. They're an annoying Harry Potter rip-off in many ways, but they do have some interesting and more original bits. This one, however, is just annoying. Almost everything that happens in it is a near-repeat of stuff from earlier books in the series, and you get hardly any of the local color which is what I really like in most of the others. I'm really not sure I'll bother to read the next one, whenever it shows up.

This was a book series that I started to read when I was a child and after re reading it I am happy to say that it is one I would still read. I find many of the turns predictable but that was part of the charm and the fact that I felt hope while reading the series really warmed my heart.
