i hate it when poirot plays god and i hate how much agatha christie hates women. making a victim of domestic abuse be a fraud and a murderer is just disgusting.
i was quite enjoying myself actually, i thoucht there were some interesting characters and dynamics. and there i was and thought: how nice to see old agatha tackle the very much negative aspects of patriarchy for once.
how wrong i was. i should've known. i mean, she was a quite outspoken anti-feminist, and, so it seems, not only of the second wave (judging by her characters' mocking the suffragettes).
i liked bob tho. more bob content please

I'm losing my mind :---) Fr I thought I had the killer down pat. And then it got confusing so I was no longer sure. And then bam I never ever ever suspected the killer ashdgkskskakjk
(3.5) since i found the facsimile editions i had to get one, and we all know a dog on the cover is the simplest way to tempt me. this was definitely not boring, but it is one of the more mundane christie murders i'm sure. still, with its limited premise, it was very fun and thoughtful, though maybe not as surprising as it was meant to be.
Agatha Christie as I remember. Well thought out detective story. 3,75
When you read a Poirot novel you can always expect entertainment, well-crafted mystery and feeling as foolish as Hastings tends to be portrayed, and yet not one novel is like the others. What sets this one aside for me is that this time Poirot has to investigate a possible murder that happened months ago and he is commissioned by the death lady herself to do so. I thought that these trying circumstances would make the investigative part of the novel nonexistent, but Poirot managed to get the information needed nerveless. Maybe in this case there is less looking for queues and more talking, the same way that there aren’t big scenes with several suspects in them, mostly every inquiry is conducted in private and in one on one.
That being said, I found terribly funny how Hastings, good old Hastings, narrated the thoughts of Bob the dog; the same way I found extremely endearing how Bob was adopted in the end. Thankfully he didn’t end being our murderer.
As for the murderer goes, I have to say that I don’t remember a case with so many suspects that were so suspicious. Not only any of them could have committed the crime, but they also admitted to that; in fact we had the most convoluted cast of bad people with obvious motives for the crime. So, as it tends to happen, I didn’t guess who the culprit was, how they did it and what their motives were. By the end of the novel I was convinced of Lawson’s culpability, just because she seemed like the nicest and more naïve character in the story, so the unexpected choice, but in the end it was Bella and I could have never guessed it. I have to admit that I even felt sorry for her and bought into her abused woman act. I liked the conclusion of the case, it made sense and it wasn’t resolved with a detention as per usual, but, if I have to complain, I have to say that I wish they have added what happened to Bella’s kids in the epilogue, they disappeared with the mysterious man and that was it, unless I missed something.
All in all, and as I’ve already said, this was a very entertaining story.
