What an ugly story with a wonderful end if you can get through the rest. I have to admit this book turned out to be a very uncomfortable read for me, but I ended up being glad I pushed through the ugly. It is chock full of triggering content. I went back and re-read the description to review why I added this to my reading list. The description is accurate but dramatically softens the real issues and content. The description would still appeal to me if I was reading it fresh. That being said, the writing is fantastic, and the novel offers a unique story and perspective. I really enjoyed the author’s use of whatever narrator thought best for each part. So despite my discomfort, I have to give this book the four-star rating it deserves.

I do need to mention that this story involves pedophilia and abuse. It’s maddening and sad and even disgusting. Those that are trying to help are vilified and the love between adult and child is glorified. While I disagree with these messages, I do agree with the writer painfully showing us the horrific details and the mindset of the abused as well as the cycles of abusers-victims. This book also does a great job of showing redefinition of what a family can be and can mean. This picture does not mean it’s the best of circumstances or outcomes. However, it may be the best situation in which a victim can feel safe lest with their own defined family. This is a story of a caring love that gets twisted into dark places.

Listen. I had to stop reading this when the 13-14 year old CHILD gave a 27 year old grown man a hand job. So DNF a little over half way through. I can't believe this is an award winning book.

It is difficult to like a disturbing book, but Greenwood writes with grit and unabashed authenticity. The title says it all, there are very uncomfortable situations, but in the lifestyle of addicts, dealers, and the unfortunate children caught in the circumstances, life is ugly so wonderful is objective.

I have so many different feelings about this book. But, that's what books are supposed to do, right? Make you feel things...

This is a story about the love between a man (yes, a grown ass man) and a young girl. But her circumstances make you actually root for them. You want thing to work out for the best for them, despite how you may feel about their relationship.

This book is beautifully written. At times I hated their relationship and thought Kellan was a creep, but underneath it all I could see that he was the only one that truly cared for Wavy.
