I had to put this book multiple times, because Davis kept bringing up points that resonated with me. I will say at times that it does get repetitive; however, perhaps this was intentional since repetition reinforces information to be remembered.... I would recommend anyone to read this book once because it's quite short and I really love the multiple topics discussed. There are many instances where I just felt so seen as a person and had always wanted to express but never had a way to put it into words. Free Palestine!! Support BDS!! Only as a collective can we achieve this!!!

This was my first book by Angela Y Davis, and I learned a lot. Because it is a collection of her speeches and interviews, some information is repeated, but it rather helped me remember it. I liked the chapters with speeches much better than the interviews. Her speeches are quite easy to follow.

Mi primer acercamiento a Angela Davis y siento que aún lo estoy digiriendo. En esta colección de ensayos, Davis habla sobre la importancia de mantener la libertad de pensamiento y de acción y de cuestionar el status quo que, con frecuencia, está determinado por hombres, blancos y occidentales. La autora comparte también muchas de sus vivencias personales, sus desencuentros con la autoridad y como, para una persona negra, las acusaciones y la persecución serán siempre una constante -como el caso de una activista estadounidense que fue encarcelada, liberada, se exilió en Cuba y años después, el FBI la pone en la lista de terroristas más buscados. Davis argumenta que en sistemas opresivos, la libertad no puede darse por hecho -siempre estará amenazada y quienes podemos alzar la voz debemos hacerlo, por nosotros y por los demás. Davis inició su activismo en la década de los setenta y sin duda, textos como éste deberían ser obligatorios, ante un mundo que parece olvidar lo débil de nuestras libertad y vida.
