Felt a little high school drama. Not bad. Ending was pretty straight forward.

Checks all my boxes and then some. Definitely a new author to watch. The idea behind this book is perfect, and there were lots of great little twists. Nice writing, nicely drawn characters. LGBT content presented in my favorite way, which is seamless, not getting in the way of the plot but integrated into it. Race and class conscious in the best way, insightful, meaningful analysis that feels deep and well considered. I really hope Micaiah Johnson writes more books! This book could work for young adults although it has some heavy themes around abusive relationships. Overall though the treatment of the topic is skillful, I think it would be more likely to lead to insight, rather than being triggering.

I really enjoyed this dystopian SciFi. The story kept going beyond what the summary laid out to unexpected twists and turns. The main character and her world(s) were vivid and real, with faults and mistakes and cleverness. This felt like a story complete (not a series), but I would continue to read in this world and from this author.

Takes a moment to get into and understand the lingo but it gets good, stays good and finishes out strong.
