Whew! I didn't know how it would end until it did, and that's pretty rare for me. Louise Williams nailed the narration!

This was like a 3 week long high school drama filled vacation.

We follow the main character, Liv's, pov. She's never really had many friends, but when she meets Beth and Binnie they create an airtight bond, or so she thought. When Ange is introduced into their group Liv now feels on the outs and she can't keep up. Her and husband, Pete, struggle financially, so when Ange offers to pay for their trip to Greece she agrees for fear of missing out. Who would take out a handout like that? Crazy!

There was too much drama and finger pointing cattiness for my liking. Also, it seemed the story jumped around at times leaving it hard for me to stay engaged because it took me a minute to figure out what time period we were in.

I was lucky enough to both read and listen to this one. Louise Williams did a fine job narrating, but she made Liv sound like a bratty teenager at times. 8 hours and 38 minutes and easy to follow along at 2x.

This was an intriguing read, although I'm still trying to parse how much I actually enjoyed it. It focuses on the relationships between several friends and how quickly it all goes downhill when someone feels rejected.

Taken to the extreme, it is an interesting look at the layers of reliance and desperation our main character Liv goes through. When she feels replaced by newcomer Ange, she knows she has to find a way back in. A path that leads to many twists and turns as the two duke it out.

All of that said, it did lost me for the last section when it all got a little far fetched. But for fans of books like Big Little Lies, there's a lot to enjoy here.

Julie Mayhew’s new novel Little Nothings is said to take place over one fateful vacation among friends in the Greek Isles. I love books with focused plots set in exciting locales, so going into this book, I was all in. However, I could tell within the first couple of pages that this book was not going to be for me. There was nothing at the start of Little Nothings to grab my attention or set the tone of the story. Instead, we are thrust right in the midst of the main character, Liv’s travel plans as she heads to the Greek Isles. As a reader, I felt like I was given too many characters and too much information to track within the first couple of pages, and unfortunately, the book continued in this manner, never really capturing my attention or interest.

Another major downfall of Little Nothings is the writing style. This book is all over the place, traveling back and forth in time with no indication of when events are taking place. Readers have to work hard just to follow the plot, which is not something that I am personally a fan of - I want to settle into my books and enjoy them, not feel as if I have to keep copious notes just to avoid being confused.

If you are a fan of the Real Housewives series and don’t mind the issues I previously pointed out, then you may enjoy this novel, as it has a catty, gossipy, frivolous vibe. More of a toxic female friendship book than a suspense novel, Little Nothings will appeal to fans of Big Little Lies and Such a Quiet Place.

I find this book difficult to review. It wasn't quite what I was expecting from the blurb.
On the one hand I read it pretty quickly but I'm not overly sure how much I liked it.

It was less a thriller and more a psychological drama, I found it very interesting to see the effects of such a toxic friendship on people and how it feeds into all aspects of their lives. I couldn't get on board with Liv, I just couldn't find anything relatable to her, she seemed quite a timid shy woman to begin with but the more the toxicity from Ange was highlighted the less I actually liked Liv and her reactions to the behaviour.

The story was a slow burner giving depth and detail to the characters, and it switched between past and present throughout. I found this particularly difficult to keep up with but I think that was because I had been reading an un edited proof where all the sections were merged together. I assume when it goes to being published it will be a bit more obvious when the timeline shifts in the story.

I read it quickly as I wanted to know what was going to happen at the end but it was not quite what I was expecting and again made me like Liv even less. I was left a little confused and underwhelmed.

There were some good parts, I enjoyed watching the toxicity of the friendship group unravel and see how easy it is to be sucked into a life you are not prepared for. I liked Liv and Petes relationship it was very truthful and it was clear why they were beginning to fall apart. Their conclusion was very satisfying.

Overall there were some good threads within the story but unfortunately the ending left me a little underwhelmed.

Toxic friendships. A trope that I officially can’t stand. This book was really hard to get through for a few annoying reasons. The story follows Liv, who is deeply insecure and basically annoyed the crap out of me, on her big friends-trip on the Greek isle of Corfu. Her friends Binnie, Beth and frenemy Ange and spouses/kids are all there. The story is peppered (heavily) with flashbacks of how their friendships developed and the emotional and financial strains that weigh heavy on Liv because she feels she needs to keep up with said friends. Vacation drama builds and builds to a climax that was so frickin’ obvious to me that I just eye rolled and left my phone on the bed to escape my annoyance that NOTHING worth my time happened. The book is basically a WB mystery. Pretty Little Liars for adults. But if you’re mature enough to have moved on from this type of behavior, the appeal is null. Also- Pete is awful. There is no relationship in this book that was redemptive. And there are so many references to viper snakes….yes yes, I get it- poisonous snakes, poisonous people. I felt like it wasn’t subtle at all. I needed WAY more- maybe truly unreliable narrator or a huge twist. But instead I got a commentary on sociopathic socialite wannabes.
