*Thanks to Crooked Lane Books + NetGalley for the ARC!*

Way, way behind on this review - whoops! Finally picked this one up (that COVID staying-at-home life, y'all) and I have mixed feelings. On one hand, it's a thriller with a couple solid twists, which I so enjoy! On the other hand,
Spoilerthis book dives into LOTS of tough moments with kids - babies being removed from their families, the death of a child in a grain truck - and those were really uncomfortable to read. I nearly put the book down after the first couple chapters because of the first scene with a baby - the baby is basically living in squalor and is asleep with his face in couch cushions.

I'm glad that I finished it because I was dying to know how it all turned out, but I probably won't be recommending it for the reasons referenced above.

I received an advanced reader copy of Hurry Home from Crooked Lane Books via NetGalley, in return for my honest opinion.

Hurry Home by Roz Nay is a story about buried family secrets. Alex feels like she finally made it- she has a job she loves, a great boyfriend… and then her estranged sister Ruth shows up.

Ruth’s in trouble and needs Alex’s help. Although Alex doesn’t believe anything that Ruth says, she agrees to help Ruth as long as they never discuss the past with each other or anyone else.

The more time that Ruth and Alex spend together, the harder it is to avoid the past. When the ultimate betrayal is committed, revealing the past may be the only way to level the playing field.

This was an excellent book that keeps you guessing while slowly unfolding the past. Hurry Home is available today, Tuesday, July 7, 2020.

This is the second book by Roz Nay that I have read and I devoured this one just like the first one. Hurry Home is a great fast-paced book that tells the story of the struggle that happens between siblings. Alex has grown up and moved on from her past and Ruth still manages to find her in her time of need. This book takes place in the present going back and forth between the two sisters point of view but has flash backs from the past to help shape the story. You learn why the sisters went the paths they did growing up and as adults. This was a very quick read for me and it didn't lag at all. I loved the entire story and was intrigued by the mystery of what was happening. People aren't always as they seem and their intentions aren't always what you think. I really liked the ending and I didn't see it coming! I would highly recommend this book to everyone and I will be looking for Roz Nay's other works. Special thanks to NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books for the advanced digital copy of Hurry Home in exchange for my honest opinion. #HurryHome #NetGalley

EHHHHH. EH. OKAY. YEAH??

description

You know when you’re reading a book and you can predict which characters are gonna be annoying. And at first, it’s like a game? “Ooo will I be right!?” But then you find out you’re VERY right and still have 150 pages left. Yeah *sigh*

This book is crazy! I feel like I said “What?!!” more often than not.
We have two sisters. Alex is portrayed as the perfect, successful one. Ruth is portrayed as the crazy one who could never get her life straightened out. Right away you agree that Alex is the good sister. She's saving children from homes where the parents can't take care of them. Angel right?! Maybe.
When Ruth shows up pregnant, supposably from her drug dealer boyfriend, Alex is reluctant to let her back into her life. It has been years since they have seen each other. However it's the past that holds them together. A secret they have to keep between themselves or else there will be dire consequences. Especially for Alex.

I went back and forth on which sister I thought was crazier. Alex is crazy! No! Ruth is crazier! I was over the back and forth thinking when by the time I finished this one. It turns out both are crazy, but one sister did it to protect the other sister from her demons of the past. That last page, those last words shouldn't have surprised me, but they did.
Thank you Crooked Lane Books and Author Roz Nay for the advanced galley. Grab your copy July 7, 2020.

This book is incredible! The story is told from the alternating perspectives of sisters Alex and Ruth who are now back in each other’s lives after having been estranged for 10 years. I’m not going to go into the synopsis any more than that as I don’t want to give anything away but if you’re a thriller/domestic suspense fan then you should 100% go and buy it! It’s got everything I love in a thriller; a twisted storyline, messy but believable characters, unreliable narrators, dual perspectives, and a huge knock your socks off twist. I was also left literally open mouthed at the very end which I just loved!

Pleasantly surprised by this one! I love books that throw in one last unsuspected twist at the end and this one did just that. Bravo!

This book grabbed my attention instantly and I had difficulty deciding which characters to trust throughout the book. The story was so well told with alternating chapters and although I think I had a niggling sense of how it might play out, I didn't quite see it going the way it did - especially right at the end. Quite a thrilling book to read and hard to put down!! I enjoyed the audiobook narration as well.

You'll notice my review is specifically vague - I think this one is best to go into without knowing too much, but I will say that it falls more on the "family drama" thriller end than the crime thriller type of story. Highly recommend.

Wow! A delicious pageturner about past, present, and family. No one is who they seem to be, so who can you trust? I ended up loving this story so much. I love it when books keep you guessing, and I had no idea how the end was going to turn out. I was almost literally glued to my Kindle for the hour and 20 minutes it took to read this one. Many thanks to Roz Nay, Netgalley, and the publisher for the advance copy!

So I had messaged Roz quite early on to tell her that I had no idea what the shiz was going on and that I was mad at everyone because they all seemed awful. Turns out I was mostly right! This book is another brilliant and twisty work from an author that needs to be on your auto-buy list!

Both books by Roz Nay have been fun, quick and enticing reading experiences. I'm kept engaged with short chapters, breathless plot lines and some quick stops and 180 degree turns that make my brain go WHAT??!!

If you haven't read this one, or Our Little Secret, I would recommend getting them on your summer TBR, you will not be disappointed.
