This was a fun book. Really liked the female main character's personality and the male MC's backstory.

The plot twist was super (wink nudge) satisfying. The gang of superheroes was super fun and I could get a taste of their personalities just from the quick snapshot. Wished it was more fleshed out and had more scenes and worldbuilding. Definitely insta-love. There wasn't much flushing of why SHE would love him - definitely why she lusts after him tho. She's a healer and he has a sympathetic backstory and I think that contributed a lot.

Also, what happened to Matt?

This was a fun quick read with one of my favourite kind of premises. Gotta love villain's who get the girl.

The writing in this one is a little rough. It's definitely very cheesy. I love Laura Thalassa, but it's pretty evident this is some of her early work. However, overall this book is very enjoyable!

2.5 stars.

I'm really sad that I didn't like this book as I've read The Bargainer series by Laura and rated all of those books 5 stars, but this just didn't do it for me.

I don't think there was a single character in this book that I actually liked. They all had such potential, but just fell so flat. Angel was just irritating and acted like a 12 year old. Some of the things she said actually left me cringing. X was supposed to be the bad boy you grow to love, but he showed zero remorse for anything and had no redeeming moments or characteristics. And every time he called her 'woman' I wanted to punch him in the face. Angel's friends sucked, a lot. At the end when they were talking to her... what the fuck was that? Some shitty ass friends that's what. Who would say those things in that situation? Madman seemed interesting, but we don't really know anything about him.

The writing was just not good. Again this is sad as I loved the writing for The Bargainers series, but this book had me cringing more often than not. Some of the things that people said or thought were just ridiculous. Apparently Laura grew as an author a lot in the year between this and Rhapsodic. Thank god.

The plot was super interesting and it could've been so great, but sadly it was executed horribly.

A really short and easy read, but it felt like a badly written fanfic that you read just for plot, but accept that the writing sucks.

For those who have never read some books by Laura Thalassa, this author has a knack for surprising us and creating very original universes !! With her books, I dived into a futuristic world with very bad king and badass queen, a contemporary world with dark king and sassy mermaid and here, a romance with superheroes !!
It's well written, hilarious, full of fighting and steamy romance scenes and a plot enticing (love between a super villain and a super heroine =D) and rather well put together !
Two regrets :
- the universe isn't exploited enough, I would have liked more informations and complexity ...
- I also would have liked the Executioner to be more mean ... Yeah I like my villain MEAAAN <3
In short, for the fans of Marvel who also like to read something other than Comics and especially romance, this book is for you =D
PS: I want ANOTHER book !!!!

Review: I came across this book on GR the other day by accident and was honestly amazed as I hadn't known that it had been released!I am a big fan of Laura Thalassa's books and while I was (im)patiently waiting for The Queen Of Traitors I decided to start reading this. The cover and blurb also played a large part in that decision.I mean, how many superheroes+supervillains books do we come across in NA these days? The only other book even remotely similar would be Equal Parts by Emma Winters.

The premise is pretty simple with an urban fantasy setting where superheroes like Angel work for the LA supernatural police department and fight against supervillains. One such villain is The Executioner or X, who is literally able to kill people with his touch. At the beginning she falls for a trap set by him, and when he tries to kill her he finds out that he can't as her healing abilities negate his touch. He is obviously shocked. And what does he do next folks?

Yes.He kidnaps her and takes her to his home.*smirks*
He is ecstatic to find someone he can finally touch and he is not going to let her go now that he's got her.Though their relationship starts off rocky, Angel is still attracted to him though her common sense warns her against it.
“He’s a horrible, evil person. Don’t be one of those girls that forgives a guy his shitty personality just because he’s gorgeous.”
In the meantime they also have to deal with the Cruel Countess who wants to steal Angel's powers and Angel's superhero friends who try to rescue her.

Though the world building wasn't as well developed as Laura's other books her characters are always spot-on.Angel is witty and sarcastic while X is broody but sweet at the same time.Angel's superhero friends are a good addition. The Cruel Countess was the typical psychotic villain who is out for power.Though I loved the interactions between Angel and X , I felt like the book could have been longer and the relationship more developed.I would definitely suggest this to all Laura Thalassa fans and anyone else looking for a witty superheroine. ;)
