Much like Springsteen’s Nebraska, Sam and Rachel find their opportunities dwindling, with desperation the only fuel they have left to get them through the night. Paul J. Garth masterfully weaves together a brutally cold yet kinetic tapestry of big-time small-town racketeers who don’t like company in the shadows that stand in the way of one more score that’s too big to settle for less. All Sam and Rachel have left is each other, and they’re willing to push it all and each other to the center of the table on one more bet, one last chance to finally escape this blizzardy heartland that threatens to bury them alive.
