Super sweet book about being different than everyone else in the room and the risks and rewards that come from putting yourself out there to make friends and let people in. Great story for multiple ages. I read it to 1st graders, and it held their attention. African-American female and Venezuelan immigrant male main characters.

Children's book by famous author - beautiful illustrations and wording about finding commonalities even when you may feel "different"

Awesome, wonderful book. I nearly teared up reading to my daughters. Helpful for kids to open up and also to reinforce loving all the different things that make them who they are.

A message all children need to hear when they start the year. Heck, all adults should hear this one too.

I can't believe it took me so long to read this book!!  It's so sweet and colorful and absolutely tear-jerking.  To anyone who's ever felt less-than at school due to their race, ethnicity, or language skills, this is the book for you!!  Differences are incredible and valuable, and are what makes us, well, us.  This book celebrates those differences, celebrates not making yourself smaller in order to please others.  It's just absolutely joyous and amazing.  Don't miss out!!  Great for grades K-2.
