THis book was a new type of horror for me that I hadn't read before. The perspective shifts don't seem out of the ordinary until the "you" phrases come out with second person. I don't think I have read something like that before, but it gave a watched/watching feeling to the whole novel.  The story was great, the descriptions and general writing style I loved, I could truly see the movie playing out before me. I'd recommend to any fans of horror.

Make sure you check the content warnings for this book! The first 3rd of the book was really hard to read because its very dark and I wasn't prepared for it. However overall the story is really good and if you are in the right head space worth a read.

I do love the characters' voices. they feel individual yet familiarly similar to each other. Truly nailed the feeling of community, to me. The writing in general is excellent.

β€œJolene?” he calls out. β€œThat you, girl?”
When you don’t answer he flattens his lips and cuts a sharp whistle, slapping the leg of his jeans twice.
You’re no dog, either.
Also: There are no dogs. Not anymore.

The author manages to make this paragraph fucking TERRIFYING in context.

I liked the
basketball game. sometimes things dont make sense, especially to younger people, kids, so they filter it through whatever they know best to understand the unknowable. The Elk woman plays by her rules and so does Denorah with basketball. I like that it also shows Denorahs
survival skills. Things going crazy? Go along, go fighting on, until you find a way to survive it.

Oh! And I love that humans
hunted through persistence hunting and the elk woman was doing the same in the finale.
It's like poetry, how it replicates the start of it all. I want to say there's implications of generational trauma that is being touched upon. I'm not Native so I'm not going to talk out my ass here though.

What is horror but healing? the ending made me bawl in relief. This book us immaculate horror and a must read for everyone.
