We love this book! Little Splat gets nervous around his crush, Kitten- and it doesn’t help that every time she sees him, she tugs his tail and pokes his belly.
This story has a simple storyline, validates feelings, and has a really sweet ending.

Kids love this hilariously sweet and honest story. This Splat the Cat book tells of Splat's crush on Kitten. Splat's many attempts to tell Kitten that he likes her on Valentine's Day don't go as planned when a mean cat decides he likes Kitten too! Not to mention that Splat can't figure out why Kitten always teases him, pulling on his ears and tying his tail in a knot! Will Splat ever be able to tell Kitten as he feels? Will Kitten like him too?

Poor Splat, he is in love, but the object of his love doesn't know it. And, he has competition. Even so, he gives her a valentine. Very cute story and well illustrated.

I am really not a fan of the books about kids (or cats) who are in love with the character who is mean to them, or characters who show they like someone by being mean. This trope isn't just overdone, but it's damaging. We shouldn't be telling kids that this is a good way to show affection, or that the person who is awful to them is worthy of their affection. Kitten is eventually nice to splat, but most of the book is just her being awful to him and him pining after her anyway. No thank you.

My favorite thing about Splat are his hilarious facial expressions. Splat doesn't disappoint in this one, especially since he has his first crush! Fans of Splat will enjoy this one!

Splat wants to make Kitten a special valentine card, but things don't go exactly as planned...or do they? A very sweet story in the Splat series that is perfect for the lovey-dovey holiday. Perfect for a morning read-aloud in the primary grades.
