This is an extremely honest memoir of the author’s life and his pursuit of a career in music, broadcasting, writing, and more. It’s a hard look at the less glamorous side of “show business.” We see memoirs of “superstars” more often, but how many are there of those, really? There are many, many people who work in music and media who do not live a glamorous lifestyle and sometimes scrape by in order to do what they love. Those stories are definitely worth reading too, and even more so.

One of my favorite parts of Steve’s story is when he realized he’d basically given up on love and a family to pursue this business for so many years. He is also brutally honest about his choices and mistakes, sometimes to the point where I said, “TMI, Steve. TMI.” But the honesty is so refreshing.

The book rambles and jumps around a bit too much in the first 30 percent. An additional edit might help organize it some more. But this is a fascinating memoir that shows a more realistic side of show business in its many forms.
