A new to me author, but I’m keen to check out more.

I had the audiobook read by Nina Alvamar who does a good job her male voices are ok but not great.

This is a mystery told from a medical examiners perspective, with some interesting insights into forensics, and post mortem examination.

The two main POV are Megan the girl who was abducted and survived, and Livia who is the sister of another abducted girl Nicole who never returned, although we hear a little from others.

There are new cases as well as the old one which plagues Livia. The time frame is mostly present day but flips to the past via Megan.

The plot has good complexity and lots of interest, I loved how it all unravelled. The theme is dark but it’s not too graphic so will suit a wide audience.

Livia is a likeable character, and my favourite so it’s easy to get on board with her mission, Megan was ok.

I would definitely recommend this book I loved it.

Charlie Donlea has done it again. I give this a 4.5 and round up to 5 for Goodreads. He really is so good at a twisty ending that I don’t see coming. I do think this book was a bit slow for the first half with setting the plot and character development. I don’t really mind that, I like a good build up. Once the show got started though, it was hard to put the book down. I love a good female main “detective like” character and add in medical examiner and you got me hooked. I loved how the book ended and as a reader, you felt some justice served and answers given. I do wish one piece turned out differently, that I won’t give away. But that truly is just personal preference of liking a happily ever after type of ending.

I really really did not like this book but forced myself to finish it bc I did not want any dnfs this year. I was also curious about the reveal and dont know how I feel about it. I think it was interesting and a good mystery but god was this a hard book to read. I really dislike how this author writes about women. This book really dragged.
