Wow. Simply wow. It's my first book by Ms Barbetti and I am simply mesmerised by her writing style. Beautiful, full of emotions.

In here Ms Barberton brought together people from different worlds, surroundings and lifestyles. And she made them fall in love. Unconventionally. Beautifully. Totally. And she made me believe in that love against all the differences the characters had.

Ames. Yes. God. I found a new book boyfriend that I want just only for myself. His growth over the book is huge. And Mila? She simply had a beautiful soul. But even she could hurt. And hurt she did.

Ms Barbetti created a story with all the feels a love story needs.

Definitely recommended.

5 stars.

I'm a sap. If you read a bunch of reviews you will see the words tears, cried, and sobbed. It's not often you hear me talk about the weight of the words in a book though. The title has a very intense meaning. It will both warm and squeeze your heart at the same time.

I don't know if having kids or losing my brother makes me more susceptible to be the emotional mess I am today but I know that not every story can make a person cry. I know that this book will make a lot of people cry.

I think the absolute most emotional single line in the book was: “Because I didn’t want you to be alone.”
I couldn't handle the absolute rawness- it's actually making me tear up again.

Some people can write books. Some can write a story that means something to one person. Some people can move others through a story. Some have the ability to transport their reader into a world of their own making and leave them back outside their own front door after shaking their heads. Ms. Barbetti can do it all. It isn't the first time she left me reeling and I know it won't be the last.

I really enjoyed the characters in the book but the pacing was really slow in places and then the romance was suddenly in fast forward. An enjoyable read no doubt

Happy release day to Whitney Barbetti!!

I read this book in like 3 hours (yes, it's possible to read that fast). To say it was wonderful and amazing does not even scratch the surface. It's full of hope, love, angst, heartbreak, and every other emotion possible. Definitely a homerun, and will absolutely be in my top 5 of the year.

This author has a unique writing style and always seems to provide something a little different with her stories and this one did not disappoint. While this book does have crossover characters, it can be read as a standalone. It is written in Mila and Ames alternating POVs and is based in London. Ames comes off a bit brass at the beginning but once he's exposed to the ray of light that is Mila, you can't help but adore him. I really liked the secondary characters as well and was glad to see there will be a follow up for them. This book evoked emotions throughout and made you feel what the characters were experiencing.

What Whitney did with this book was bring two completely different people from two completely different worlds together and make me believe in them and love them and accept them for all that they are.

In The Weight of Life not only do we have two strangers meeting unconventionally but we have an established connection. And a strong one at that! A connection that Whitney so diligently delivers to readers without forcing it or shoving it into their faces. Without saying "here is Ames. Here is Mila. Love them." Slowly, Whitney eases us into their lives and their surroundings and it's an ease and comfortability we never knew we were looking for.

Ames. Ugh, I couldn't have asked for a more developed character. Watching his growth from the beginning of the book and to the end and the way he opens up and transforms one chapter at a time was one of my absolute most favorite things in this book. And Mila, she's so different from Whitney's other characters but one of my favorites nonetheless. Whitney took a ray of sunshine and gave her so many real feelings that I hurt for her. So many flaws and proof that even the happy ones hurt. Even when she didn't want her hurt to show.

“Summer.” When I crinkled my brow, he took a sip of his sangria. I could feel his heart calm, the beats slow to a rhythm not unlike my own. “The sun shines the longest in the summer, making the days last longer than the nights. And when I first saw you on the bridge, you looked like summer to me. It made no sense, not at that time of night, on the cusp of fall, that I could look at you and see so much sun. There’s comfort in night, in the dark—a safety that the sun cannot guarantee.”

Not very often do I find books like this. Just...a good love story. Two good people with two good hearts. Two souls and two weights of life. Two stars plus two stars plus one. FIVE!
