Someone left a review of this collection, calling it too depressing, which made me want to read it even more. And here's the thing: are they depressing or just real? These stories tell the stories of the people you see in any city (in this case, Minneapolis during the cold months). They shed light on what you might not see behind the couple sitting across from you on the bus, the woman buying a pack of smokes at the convenience store down the street, the clerk at your favorite liquor store, or the regular who frequents that store.
The stories are well-crafted and the author's voice is real, honest, and full of empathy. For me, a perfect winter read.
