milliemoo207's review against another edition
I had to read this for my NEA, and i didn’t need to finish it to find the poems i need, so i’ve decided to put it down. To be honest i hated this on my initial reading as it is not even remotely the type of thing i would normally pick up, but since i’ve talked about the poetry with friends and analysed it, i’ve found some of them gut wrenching and beautiful.

These poems paint a bleak picture at times but the writing is superb which stops it from feeling miserable. Insightful and troubling but written with enough skill to also be entertaining.

Each dawn I wake
& scroll myself for new scars,
confess that I want to live for good times:
picnic with a peng ting, lips her on the grass.
But every day, on the endz, there is a procession
my breathing body mocks.
Brilliant, prophetic, joyful despite its grittiness. So glad I had the chance to read this for uni, it opens up essential discussions regarding class, housing, community, Black identity, and many more.

I couldn’t relate to the experiences shared but a valuable insight into such a different life from another’s perspective.
Borrowed the e book as well to see the photography along side the poems.

This collection was emotive and humanises experiences that are all too often brushed over by the news and popular culture.
Some of the poems really stood out. I would list them but actually it would be quite a long list. It’s a beautiful book.
