I can't even think of a way to come up with any sort of star or number review for this book. It's heavy. which is expected for a book set in Germany throughout the lead up and during WWII. Truly, it's mostly actually a slice of life story. This IS what teens and young folks in that time and place dealt with as a "normal" life; there is no satisfying, tie-it-all-up-together-into-a-pretty-bow conclusion in their lives

and there certainly isn't one in this book.

Not being used to such horrors, we disguise them as plot points. This book is heavy, it is emotional, it is almost better that they seem as plot points as that shows the humanity we feel in that we never went anything as horrific to become a "slice of life" for anyone ever again. Would I recommend for others to read this book? Yes. Just make sure you're in the right place to do so.

I found it to be pretty interesting but at the same time I felt the pacing was slow and I wish there was a little more to the story.
