This is the best book I've read this year. I'm a queer (White) Christian with a BA and MA in Theology, and I wish this book had been published a few years ago when I was researching in this area. It's academically robust, prophetic and moving. The research and bibliography involved in this book makes it ready to be plucked off the shelf to inform students doing academic research, yet it isn'  exclusive in its writing style so is also accessible to those who haven't studied theology formally. For me it was equal parts affirming as a queer person and challenging as a White person. I very infrequently make annotations in books I read, but I had to in this book, as there is so much for me to return to and continue reflection and so much I want to bring into discussions I have with other Christians, particularly those of us who are not both LGBTQIA+ and Black. I think it is an essential text for all Christians to read at least once, if not an essential text to refer back to whenever considering racism and/ or Queerness.

a challenging, uplifting prophetic voice to the church and britain at large. as a white gay trans person this was both comforting and discomfiting and had a lot to say to me. should be required reading for all c of e bishops!
