I thoroughly enjoyed Heartstone. I’m a sucker for Pride and Prejudice adaptions (My own book is based on the Austen novel.), so I knew from the beginning I would like White’s take. (Especially because of the dragons.)
The best part of the story, for me, was watching the plot follow the traditional path of Austen’s novel, but in a new light. It was neat to know what was coming next, yet still be wondering how it was going to differ because of the new setting.

A fun read! Had me gasping and kicking my feet even though I knew what the beats were going to be, as a P&P adaptation. I really liked how the author translated some of the conflicts to fit into the fantasy world

I was really excited for this book, I love pride and prejudice, however I did not end up liking it. I felt the plot dragged and I was getting bored during the sections that were supposed to be thrilling. I did enjoy the characters and their development, as well as the writing, I just thought the plot was too slow.

BAH. That ending. This book went to a place I wasn't expecting, and I loved it. Hopefully full review to come!

I loved this book at the start. Perfectly paced, a delightful trickle of interesting information that immediately pulled me in and had me invested. I loved the MC and how she was written and interacted with everyone else.
But then. Some of the worst written romance I've ever read. The absolute worst I've ever read from a published book.
Just. No reason given to like the enemy turned lover. No path of character development. Hes just a jerk and then he confesses love out of nowhere and then hes nice and she loves him back.
Kind of devastating because this started as a 4.5 if not 5 star book but that just completely ruined it

It started slow, but by the end I gave up on sleep so I could finish. I would love an extended universe or even just a sequel to expand on some of the creatures that we didn't get in depth explanations about.
