I didn't like Bram at first. He was just too selfish for me and I found myself wanting to smack him more than once. I loved Maybelle, though. She is smart and knows how to take care of herself. A very practical person. This is a fun read. There is a drunken pig and some suspense. And Bram grew on me over time. Fans of historical romance will love this one.

Well, I liked Bram more than anyone else.

I did not understand the epilogue very well. What was that and what was it supposed to mean?

The story was fine, engaging enough. It was good enough for me to read it at this time when I'm finding it hard to concentrate on one book, so it was cool.

I flowed with the book, wasn't too passionate to check good and bad things in the book, but it was enjoyable. A better experience than the first in the series.

I recommend.

One Rogue at a Time took a while for me to get into--at first, I wasn't really too sure I liked either the hero or the heroine--but they grew on me, and before I knew it I was totally engrossed in their story.

Even when I wasn't sure, though, Ms. Lee had me smiling and even laughing out loud at some of the scenes--the rogue pig and his predisposition for whiskey-soaked slops comes to mind, for some reason... ;)

So in the end, I did end up enjoying this one quite a bit, and Bram and Maybelle grew on me so that by the end I was rather desperate for them to manage to figure out an HEA together. (Spoiler: they do!)

One Rogue at a Time is the second in the Rakes & Rogues series, but it worked just fine as a standalone.

Rating: 4 stars / B+

I received a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.

I'm not going to leave a star rating cuz I think this category is just not for me and I don't want to unfairly ding it for being what it was intended to be.

That said, I found it pretty rapey and never stopped despising the dude. It did have some nice callbacks to my fair lady/pygmalion and often was pretty funny but I hated the male lead/love interest more than any of the villains and his pov parts kinda made me sick.

Don’t you hate it when a historical romance advertises a rake or a rogue for a hero and then fails to deliver? Have no fear of that happening here. Bram is a rogue. He is absolutely and deliciously mercenary (but with a heart of gold, of course). Bluebell is a heroine perfectly matched for this rogue. She is a wonderful combination of smart, driven, and caring. Together the provincial miss and the calculating bastard are an amazing pair.

This is not an insta-love story. The connection between the two is a bit of a slow-burn (though there is a REALLY INTENSE spark of lust fairly early on). But once Bram is hooked, the love between him and Bluebell is beautiful. The last quarter of the book gave me ALL THE FEELS.

I really enjoyed the balance of humor and emotion in this story. While it is absolutely a standalone, fans of previous Jade Lee books will rejoice at the return of Lady Eleanor.
