exceptionally unlikable characters, poor decision making, bad behavior, and very little worth rooting for. other than what happens next, I kept wondering when I would care about this group, and ultimately never really did.

I loved this book so much!
After I saw this book on Amazon, the cover and the dedication I knew I need to read this and I was right. It was so good!

Bad Karma: The True Story of a Mexican Surf Trip from Hell by Paul Wilson is such a wild ride of a memoir! Right away from the start I’m thinking “why are you going on this trip Paul?! This is crazy! How could it get any worse?” and boy does it. So many unbelievable things happen during Paul’s road trip to Mexico that make this book really fun to read. I especially liked the addition of the photos (ie. photographic evidence!) and the epilogue.

Overall, I did honestly this book. Quick read, would recommend it for a road or camping trip, kind of a beach read. It wasn’t a literary masterpiece and there were moments where attempts at humor fell flat. Started to get tired of it at a certain point but I did want to see how the whole thing resolved itself. The photographs are an interesting touch. After writing this review I bumped my rating down from 4 to 3.75 stars..

This book was so interesting! I can’t believe the stories this guy has. It showed me a whole different side of life that I would never be able to experience otherwise. The writing was pretty good and I loved the pictures to bring it all to life.

I love old VW buses. My friend owns one and he loaned me this book, which centers on a surf trip from CA to Mexico in one of these buses. What a wild trip! Bad Karma is certainly the case. You want to feel bad for the author and his 2 “friends” for some of the situations they get in, but the friends are such jerks and the author himself should have known better. Ah well, such is the story of youth. Curious about the hijinks on this trip? Let’s just say that El Chapo the drug kingpin figures into the story (before he became the kingpin) and that the author had to wait for the statute of limitations to expire before he could write it.
